Historical Theology Reading Group

There is a richness to the Christian tradition that cannot be captured by one generation alone.

Our reading group creates space to learn from older Christian voices – writers who help us slow down, think deeply, and consider the faith with greater clarity and humility.

We meet on the first Saturday of each month in Pastor Steve’s home for coffee, donuts, and a few hours of conversation and discussion.

Currently Reading: Orthodoxy by G.K. Chesterton

We are currently reading G.K. Chesterton’s Orthodoxy – a lively, surprising, and deeply imaginative defense of the Christian faith.

Chesterton has a way of turning familiar ideas sideways so we can see them again with fresh wonder. In Orthodoxy, he reflects on faith, reason, joy, creation, humility, sanity, and the strange beauty of Christian truth.

This is not a dry theology book. It is full of paradox, humor, sharp insight, and unexpected turns.

Together, we are considering questions like:

  • Why does Christianity make sense of both the wonder and brokenness of the world?
  • How does Christian doctrine protect joy rather than diminish it?
  • What does it mean to see creation as gift?
  • Why are humility, gratitude, and childlike wonder so central to faith?
  • How can older Christian voices help us recognize the assumptions of our own age?
